I’m Safe’s Freedom run 5K Marathon for women was held in Chennai Island grounds where more than 1500 women from various colleges, corporates and households participated. The run was organised by I’m Safe in association with Gandhi World Foundation.
Giftson Selladurai, the Co-founder and CEO of “I’m Safe,” a free women’s safety app, stated to the press that the marathon’s purpose was to raise awareness about the necessity of women’s safety in India. He also highlighted that their app was designed to combat all forms of violence against women, offering safety features such as SOS alerts, location sharing with trusted contacts, fake calls, and helplines. Selladurai further mentioned that the app is available for free and can be accessed globally on both iOS and Android devices.
The 5K marathon event was flagged off by V.V. Geethanjali, Deputy Commissioner, Cyber Security, Greater Chennai Police. The event was also graced by eminent dignitaries VM Muralitharan, Chairman, Ethiraj College for Women, Dr Uma Gowrie, Principal, Ethiraj College for Women, Dr. Miruma George, Dean of Student Affairs, Stella Maris college, Vijaya Baskara Pandian, Regional Head, IDFC bank, and key representatives from Orange holdings, One Glint, Bailey, Fast&Up’s hydration team, Sooriya hospital’s paramedics team and the fitness team from Unschool India who opened the event with stretching and warm ups.
Divya S, Nameera Fathima from Ethiraj College and Jagadeeshwari from Stella Maris secured the first, second and third places respectively. The winners were facilitated with Medals, certificates, I’m Safe bluetooth tags, cash prizes and gift hampers. The first 500 finishers were awarded a certificate and a medal.
