News18 has appointed Jyoti Kamal as the Converged Editor for Hindi, overseeing the national news channel as well as the digital and social operations, according to an internal notification circulated to some of the staff.
The notification from a senior staffer (whose identity was not revealed to Medianews4u), read:
“We have been pushing convergence across our TV and digital operations for the past year or so, one channel at a time. We have pretty much done it across the network and early results from the exercise are extremely encouraging. They are a validation of our decision to go down the route of building a digital-centric, multi-platform news organisation.
“Our Hindi news operation has been the last frontier for this drive, and it gives me great pleasure to announce the appointment of Jyoti Kamal as the Converged Editor for Hindi, overseeing the national news channel as well as the digital & social operations. Jyoti, known to us as JK, is an editorial leader who has admirably steered our Punjab, Haryana, J&K and Himachal Pradesh TV and digital operations to leadership.
“His temperament, multi-platform expertise and leadership style will be important assets in this challenging and exciting role. JK will work in tandem with News18 India channel editor Kishore Ajwani and News18 Hindi digital editor Dayashankar Mishra, both of whom will report to him.
“In the last three years leading News18 India, Kishore has guided the network’s flagship Hindi channel to the top of the BARC league table. Likewise, Daya too has built the Hindi digital operations with dedication, giving it breadth and depth.
“At the end of September, News18 Hindi was ranked fourth among Hindi news publishers, gaining three positions on the previous month and within striking distance of entering the top-three club. Our expectation is that as convergence of editorial operations moves apace, we will achieve multi-platform dominance.
“Please join me in welcoming JK to the Hindi fold and wishing the team all the very best.”
