Anurag Thakur, Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting said that the recommendations by the committee which was set up to review the guidelines on television rating agencies in India and headed by Prasar Bharati chief executive Shashi Shekhar Vempati will be implemented soon, post that TV news ratings will be resumed soon.
“The TRPs of GEC channels are being released. When it comes to the news channel ratings, you all know what has happened. BARC has changed the CEO twice. We have set up a committee to review the Television rating system and implement guidelines. We have received the views on the committee’s recommendations from industry bodies. Now we are looking at implementing the suggestions as soon as possible. By doing that the monthly BARC rating will start coming and it will bring relief to the channels and the people of the country,” said Thakur while speaking at the News18 India Chaupal summit.
The committee led by Shashi Shekhar Vempati has submitted 39-page recommendations to the ministry in January 2021. The ministry had asked the Indian Broadcasting and Digital Foundation (IBDF), News Broadcasters and Digital Association (NBDA), and News Broadcasters Federation (NBF) to provide their comments by 30th November.
