New Delhi : Khel Today, a national sports magazine in Hindi, was formally launched by eminent coaches, players and administrators here at Kalkaji Mandir on Wednesday.
Rio Olympic-bound Table Tennis player Manika Batra, former Test cricketer Chetan Chauhan, Dronacharya-awardee wrestling coach Yashvir Singh were among many eminent personalities who graced the launch function. Khel Today will be published monthly henceforth.
In front of the huge crowds of journalists and sportsperson gathered for the occasion, top Indian female paddler Batra said: “All the mothers in the country should encourage their daughters to participate in sports. My mother has given me all the facilities and devoted time for me to work hard in the field of Table Tennis. I will leave no stone unturned to excel in Rio Olympics”
Dhawan, Dronacharya awardee hockey coach Harender Singh among others. Journalists with more than twenty five years of experience in the media industry are part of its editorial team. Ashok Kinker is the consulting editor, Rakesh Thapliyal the editor-in-chief and Ranvir Singh is its executive editor.
As a national president of Krida Bharti (a sports wing of RSS), Chetan Chauhan said, “I am putting all the efforts to provide coaches and sporting facilities of sports which are popular in rural areas such as wrestling, kabaddi, kho kho, volleyball, malkhambh etc.
Mahant Surendra Nath Awdhoot of Kalika Peeth also honoured the Rio-bound 20-year-old Batra, Chetan Chauhan, coach Yashvir Singh, international body builders, who are disciples of Bhupender Dhawan and Lata Gupta, chairperson of standing committee EDMC.
