Mumbai: Mihir Karkare, Managing Director of Mirum India, part of VML India, has officially stepped down from his position. Karkare, who was appointed MD in January 2024, announced his decision to move on via a LinkedIn post, where he also hinted at starting something new in 2025.
Karkare co-founded Mirum India in 2009, just 15 months after graduating from college, along with Hareesh Tibrewala and Sanjay Mehta. Initially launched as Social Wavelength, the agency grew into one of India’s leading digital agencies, achieving a major milestone in 2014 when it was acquired by WPP and rebranded as Mirum India. Over the years, Karkare played a pivotal role in the agency’s growth, cementing its reputation for innovation and excellence in the digital marketing space.
Reflecting on his journey, Karkare wrote, “The last 16 years have been extremely gratifying, and I’m moving on with tonnes of memories, several milestones achieved, and learnings for a lifetime. I’m grateful for all the opportunities I got, the fantastic work we did, and most importantly for the great relationships we built at Mirum.”
Karkare’s co-founders, Tibrewala and Mehta, had exited the company in February 2024. Under their leadership, Mirum India evolved from a startup into a prominent player in the digital ecosystem, providing end-to-end solutions to brands and driving innovation across the industry.
Before founding Mirum, Karkare had a background in technology, working on pre-iPhone mobile platforms and early web 2.0 products for enterprise use.
As Karkare looks to the future with plans for new ventures in 2025, his departure marks the end of an era for Mirum India and opens a new chapter in his entrepreneurial journey. The industry will undoubtedly be watching closely to see what this seasoned innovator does next.
