New Delhi : The Information and Broadcasting ministry has asked TV and radio channels to carry special programmes to promote the second International Yoga Day on 21st June.
In a letter to all broadcasters, the ministry said that on 11th December 2014 the UN General Assembly had declared celebrating 21st June as the International Yoga Day (IYD) every year.
Earlier Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given a call for the adoption of 21st June as the IYD, it added.
“The forthcoming 21s June will be the second IYD and hence, it will hold special significance for India, particularly when the genesis of practice of Yoga is associated with our country and several initiatives have been taken by institutions, both public and private, to promote the cause,” the ministry said.
To take the same forward, it asked all TV channels, FM stations and community radio stations to take all possible steps this year also to promote IYD carrying special features or in any other befitting manner during the period leading to the occasion.
