New Delhi : The Information and Broadcasting Ministry had issued an advisory to MSOs on 7th August related to the receiving of transmission Signals of Doordarshan under mandatory carriage of DD channels.
The advisory issued by K.S.Rejimon (Director BP&L) states that “as per notification dated 5th Sept 2013 issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting it is mandatory for multi-system operators and cable operators to mandatorily carry 24 channels of Doordarshan in DAS areas and 8 channels in non-DAS areas”.
Prasar Bharati has informed that some multi-system operators and cable operators are not carrying mandatory channels and the quality of re-transmission of TV channels of Doordarhan by some multi-system operators (MSOs) is inferior as they take Doordarshan signals from the Ku-Band DTH service of Doordarshan.
In this connection reference is invited to para 3 of the Ministries Notification of 5h Sept 2013 which specifies that “Every cable operator shall take only C-band signals of Doordarshan channels for re-transmission on their cable service by dish antenna / Television Receive, only of not less than 12 feet diameter and Yagi antenna, to ensure good quality reception’ .
All MSOs are therefore advised to ensure that all mandatory channels of Doordarshan are not only carried on their network but also that Doordarshan signals for retransmission are received on C-band dishes only as per the Government notification
As per this notification the MSOs are suppose to install the specific antenna to received the signal in-order to ensure quality telecast of Doordarshan channels in C & S homes.
