A day after the Supreme Court paused the I & B Ministry’s ban, the Malayalam news channel MediaOne channel resumed the telecast today.
The channel first went off air on January 31, 2022, after the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (I&B) refused to renew the channel license citing security reasons. Later Kerala High Court issued an interim order on the implementation of the ministry’s order till the next hearing date till February 2, 2022. On Feb 2, the Kerala HC extended the interim order till February 7.
On February 8, Kerala High Court dismissed the petition filed by MediaOne news channel challenging the order of Information & Broadcasting Ministry’s order disallowing the telecast and removing the name of the channel from the list of licensed channels stating that there are inputs justifying the denial of security clearance. The channel went off air on February 8 again.
On March 15 2022, The Supreme Court stayed the telecast ban imposed by the Union Government on Malayalam news channel, MediaOne, and allowed the channel to operate till further order. The court passed the interim order in a special leave petition filed by the company running the channel assailing the Kerala High Court’s judgement of upholding the decision of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to not renew the broadcast license of the channel.
