Mumbai: McCann Worldgroup has announced the elevation of Brandon Cheung to the role of CEO, Southeast Asia, signaling a strategic push for accelerated growth and innovation across the region. Cheung succeeds Nick Handel, who has been appointed CEO of MRM UK, following nearly two decades of leadership in Asia.
Cheung, who most recently served as Chief Global Client and Growth Officer for McCann Worldgroup Asia Pacific, brings over two decades of experience in brand building, performance marketing, and customer experience. With more than 12 years in the McCann network, he is deeply familiar with the Southeast Asian market and is known for his strategic acumen, global client relationships, and collaborative leadership.
In his new role, Cheung will report to Ghassan Harfouche, President of McCann Worldgroup Asia Pacific. He will oversee capability development in key areas such as McCann Content Studios (social/influencer), audience intelligence, and production automation solutions — all aimed at driving client growth across Southeast Asia.
“Brandon is a truly visionary leader, who brings a hybrid skillset of strategist, growth driver and a proven record of building high-performing teams and fostering strong value-driven cultures,” said Ghassan Harfouche.
“Combined with his rich experience of the region and client brands, Brandon’s leadership equips the business to help grow, evolve and build enduring brands for our clients. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Nick for everything he has delivered for our clients and people and wish him all the best in his new chapter within the McCann Worldgroup family.”
Cheung steps into the role at a time of dynamic transformation across the marketing and communications landscape in Southeast Asia.
“Our region is at a pivotal moment for growth. I’m looking forward to building on the current momentum with our teams to create strategic and impactful creativity that drives true business value for our clients,” said Brandon Cheung.
Cheung takes over from Nick Handel, who will now lead MRM UK. Based in Singapore for the past 18 years, Handel has been instrumental in shaping the agency’s presence in Southeast Asia, with leadership across Singapore, Hong Kong, and Thailand. Under his guidance, McCann Worldgroup Southeast Asia consistently earned industry accolades — including over a decade of Agency of the Year honors.
“It’s bittersweet to be leaving Asia,” remarked Nick Handel. “I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the most talented teams in the industry, and I’m proud of what we’ve built together. However, I leave knowing our offices are in great hands.”
Cheung and Handel have worked in close partnership for over a decade, ensuring a smooth leadership transition. The changes will come into full effect at the end of this month.
