The Malayalam daily Malayala Manorama is all set to unveil a new look tomorrow – on the occasion of the daily’s 136th anniversary.
The redesign has been done by Lucie Lacava, a design consultant for Lacava Design Inc. Lacava has given visual personality to more than 100 publications across ten countries, including the UAE and Singapore. Her most recent projects include relaunching The East African and The Nations newspapers and supplements in Kenya, as well as updating and refreshing the Straits Times print and digital products in Singapore.
Speaking to medianews4u about the daily’s new look, Varghese Chandy, Vice President of Marketing & Ad Sales at Malayala Manorama, said, “Malayala Manorama has a tradition of keeping pace with the times. Throughout our 136-year history, we’ve undergone several redesigns to meet the evolving preferences of our readers. We’ve collaborated with world-renowned newspaper design talents, including Mario Garcia and now Lucy Lacava, the esteemed Italian-Canadian designer.”
Chandy underlined that the latest design refresh aims to engage readers of all ages, with a particular focus on attracting younger audiences.
The last time the daily was redesigned was in 2012 by the Spanish design journalist Javier Errea and his team from Errea Comunicacion. Before that, it was redesigned in November 2004 which was done by Mario Garcia of Garcia Media. Malayala Manorama has launched a campaign highlighting the special features of the new design.
