Chennai : Makkal TV owned by Makkal Tholai Thodarbu Kulumam Ltd. filed a Writ petetion before the Hon’ble Madras High Court on 1st April and the same was taken in a special sitting by Justice M.M.Sundresh on the same day. In the Writ Petition Makkal TV sought for a direction to Arasu Cable TV to re-link and continue to telecast their Channel in S-4 mid band. They further stated that the same was disconnected from 31st March 2015.
Mr.A.L.Somayaji, Advocate General along with Mr.Abdul Saleem, Special Government pleaser for Arasu Cable TV appeared and contended that Arasu Cable TV had floated a tender for 23 free to air channel slots and while Makkal TV did not participate in the bid the S4 mid band slot was taken by MGK Printing Ltd. for their channel at the rate of Rs.63,02,000/- and hence the same cannot be allotted to Makkal TV. Further if the Petitioner wanted the other available Mid, Super and Hyper Bands then they should pay the fixed price and obtain the same.
It was also represented that from 01.04.2015 Makkal TV is not disconnected but being telecasted in U 40 band all over Tamil Nadu and that the channel of the successful bidder is being telecast in S 4 mid band.
The Hon’ble judge upon hearing the submissions refused to grant interim direction as sought for. Further, as Makkal TV pleaded that as S 9 band is free for them to be accommodated, the judge asked Arasu Cable TV to consider the same on merits. The matter is posted to 7th April 2015.
