Lupa Systems- jointly owned by Uday Shankar and James Murdoch is reportedly set to form a joint venture with Reliance Industries. The joint venture will be acquiring a stake in Viacom18 and the current Managing Director of Lupa Systems- Nitin Kukreja will be appointed as the CEO, as per media reports.
Prior to his stint with Lupa Systems, Kukreja was associated with IQuest Enterprises Ltd as the CEO.
From 2007-17, Nitin was at Star India, where his last role was as CEO of Star Sports.
In 4 years at Star Sports, Nitin worked on making Star Sports the premier destination for Indian sports fans and in transforming the sports landscape in India. He was involved in the initiation of highly successful domestic sports leagues like the Pro Kabaddi League and the Indian Super League; the reinvention of the Kabaddi World Cup and the initiation of sports broadcast in Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam.
Alongside, he was involved in Star Sports acquiring a portfolio of premier broadcast rights like ICC, BCCI and Asia Cup cricket, Rio Olympics, Premier League Football, FIH hockey, and Wimbledon, French Open and US Open tennis.
Prior to the Star Sports role, Nitin was head of Business Development for Star India, where his role involved formulation of long-term strategy for the company and execution of inorganic growth opportunities. In this role, he laid out the strategic roadmap for Star till 2020, worked on industry- defining acquisitions of Asianet and ESPN-Star Sports and various other transactions involving Zee, Tata Sky and Hathway.
Prior to Star, Nitin worked in the Investment Banking and Private Equity divisions of Morgan Stanley andin the Audit and Assurance division of PricewaterhouseCoopers.
