Mumbai: Lokmat newspaper announced the launch of Aurangabad’s 1st Marathon celebrating the spirit of the city. Scheduled on 11th December 2016 at Garkheda Stadium, Sutgirni, Aurangabad, Lokmat aims to create this as an annual property featuring in the Marathon Calendar nationally and internationally thus making it one of the largest events involving over 3million people of the heritage city of Maharashtra.
Special categories have been created for national and international runners in this Marathon. Aurangabad being the ‘Tourism Capital of Maharashtra,’ Lokmat is in touch with the travel and tourism sector to create exciting offers for tourists to not only be a part of this Marathon but also enjoy the weekend indulging in the breath-taking beauty of the city including a visit to heritage site of Ajanta and Ellora.
The theme of the marathon – “I run for myself” will have 21 km – Half Marathon, 10 km – Power Run, 5 km – Fun Run and 3 km – Family Run. Winners of the half marathon will be eligible for exciting prizes and merit certificates. Registrations have already begun and shall remain effective till 26th November 2016. Registration can be done through a dedicated website mycitymarathon.com or by submitting printed forms at Lokmat Bhavan, Opp High Court, Aurangabad. The Marathon is being organized with the expert consultant U2CanRun.
On the occasion of announcing this, Mr. Karun Gera, President, Sales, Lokmat Media Pvt Ltd, “Our initial response on the registrations have been overwhelming and we are looking at over 5000 participants in the 1st year. We have also received response from other parts of Maharashtra and serious runners across the country. Our endeavor is to make this Marathon an important practice run for runners of Mumbai Marathon in January every year. Involving various associations and athletic clubs in the city, this event shall connect with the people of Aurangabad.
This marathon will help bring together diverse population of various generations, castes and strata of society and create a united movement towards a better self, a better city.
