Global data and measurement-driven media agency Essence recently conducted a survey of 2,200 individuals aged between 18-45 in 11 countries about their thoughts and opinions as consumers regarding social commerce. This survey took place in July 2021.
The report illustrates the significant opportunity brands have in social commerce, with three out of four people surveyed saying they are likely or highly likely to buy through social media in the future.
The report highlighted the purchasing trends of Indians on social commerce.
- The beauty category topped the purchasing trends of Indians with 39 percent. The other most purchased category of Indians were Food delivery and take away with 30 percent, and grocery with 29 percent.
- 52% of the respondents from India are spending between Rs 1000 and Rs 5000 on average on a single transaction on social media.
- As per the report, live shopping (39%) and conversational commerce (49%) are gaining popularity in India, as 9 out of 10 people enjoyed the shopping experience. 88% of the Indian respondents are likely to buy via social media which is the highest after China.
- India is also witnessing a growing preference for newer payment methods such as digital wallets (30%) and mobile payments (34%).
