Hours after the Kerala based news channel MediaOne went off air on Monday due to I&B cancelling the license citing security reasons, the Kerala High Court issued a two day stay on the implementation of the ministry’s order till the next hearing date.
The matter is posted to be considered on Wednesday and issued notice to Planetcast Media Solutions Ltd- the teleport operator who was directed by the Ministry to block the channel’s uplinking immediately).
The center contended that they have adequate reasons to revoke the channel’s license and the ban is done due to security reasons.
This is the second time MediaOne has been banned by the I&B Ministry. In March 2020, the ministry banned MediaOne along with Asianet News for 48 hours over their “biased” coverage of the Delhi riots, stating that their reports sided “towards a particular community” among other violations of the Cable TV Act.
MediaOne TV operated by Madhyamam Broadcasting Limited under Jamaat-e-Islami Kerala chapter. The channel was licensed in September 2011 and was officially launched on 10 February 2013.
