Mumbai : The channels heads of Sony Entertainment Television are exited with the 1st week delivery KBC 8 as this has given a light of hope for the channel to scale higher in future. TAM ratings of week 34 has lifted the Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) from being at the bottom of the ratings chart to number four pushing life Ok to fifth position in Hindi GEC scale.
The channel has launched the eighth season of Kaun Banega Crorepati on 17 August under huge pressure due to the failure of the Amitabh Bachchan starrer “Yudh” as it has casted a question mark on the Big B’s charm. However, the opening week ratings of KBC 8 has cleared all the shadow casted on the channel and Big B and it seems the audience also accepted the new format.
The inaugural episode got 4.2 TRPs, while subsequent episodes registered 2.8, 2.2 and 2.3 and 2.6 TRPs. Sony garnered 366,282 GVTs, up from 262,647 GVTs. On the other hand, Life OK, which slipped to number five position, managed 287,861 GVTs, down from 301,994 GVTs.
As per the latest TAM TV ratings, the gainers this week are Zee TV at number two with 464,660 GVTs, up from 453,012 GVTs, SAB at number six faces neck-to-neck competition with Life OK as it records 287,686 GVTs, up from 278,215 GVTs.
Despite losing numbers, Star Plus continues to lead the Hindi GEC market with 559,230 GVTs, down from 688,618 GVTs and Colors at number three stood at 376,579 GVTs, down from 410,774 GVTs.
The fall of Life OK from number three to four to five in the past couple of weeks is due to the launch of big ticket non-fiction shows like Big Boss 8 on Colors and KBC 8 on Sony TV. However, Life OK is ready with its counter strategy to add fuel to its program line-up with “Dare 2 Dance” hosted by Akshay Kumar.
