Chennai : Tamil satellite channel “Jaya TV’ emerged as the proud owner of the satellite rights of Superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming movie “Lingaa” for a whooping amount of Rs 32Cr, which is considered to be the highest ever paid amount for acquiring the satellite rights in the history of South Indian movies.
Market sources confirmed that Jaya TV emerged victorious despite a huge competition from other satellite channels in Tamil Nadu market. It is understood that a leading Tamil GEC has placed its bid up to 28 Cr.
Superstar Rajinikanth’s movies are always known for its repeat values. wherein, it constantly keeps generating good viewership ratings despite being aired repeatedly for many number times. Even now, Movies like ‘Arunachalam’, Badsha, ‘Padayappa’ and ‘Chandramukhi’ keeps generating double digit numbers for Sun TV even after being repeated for more than ten times.
Similarly, titles like ‘Shivaji’ and ‘Enthiran’ are still considered to be a most favourite movies among the Tamil audience that can be scheduled during important festival occasions.
This year Jaya TV is on a movie acquisition spree as the channel has already acquired many big movie titles like “Kochadayaan”, Vijay starrer “Kaththi” for Rs 13 Cr , Shankar’s “I” for Rs 19 Cr.
Jaya TV has exclusively covered the audio release of “Lingaa” held on 16th November and the movie is expected to be released on 12th December that coincides with Rajinikanth’s birthday.
By acquiring the movie for such a whooping amount the channel “Jaya TV” has taken South film industry by surprise as the industry was estimating the satellite rights of ‘Lingaa’ to be around Rs 25 Cr only, however the competitive bids from other contenders spiked the rates upward.
It may be noted that the Eros International has acquired the worldwide rights of “Lingaa’ for Rs 169 Cr.
