Thrissur: Janam Multimedia owned Malayalam News channel Janam TV has emerged as the No.2 News channel in Kerala Market.
The state of Kerala in the recent times have made headlines with a lot of disasters, controversies with an intensified political climate. Supreme Courts verdict against the traditional customs of restraining women between 10 and 50 years of age to Sabarimala and sunsequent mass protest has kept Kerala a boiling pot with heavy media attention.
This controversy turned out to be conflict when the women rights activists attempted to enter the temple last week, Janam TV had deep penetration in the most sensitive area of Pathanamthitta district of Kerala where the Sabarimala Sree Dharma Sastha Temple is located. The channel extensively covered the issue and kept its viewers constantly updated in the past weeks, through this, Janam TV has gained considerable viewership as the channel has touched 102.4 GRP in week 43, an addition of 24 GRPs against its previous week ratings of 78.13 GRP in week 42. With this Janam TV has also emerged as No.2 player in Malayalam news space.
The market leader Asianet News remained on top of the charts with 180.24 GRP despite while Mathrubhumi News at No. 3 position garnered 119.41 GRP. Manorama News stood at No. 4 with 84.5 GRP in week 43. With 44.66 GRP Media One TV stood at No. 5 place in week 42 and managed to maintain the position with 41.01GRP in week 43 too. News18 Kerala recorded 34.45 GRP as the channel lost around 28 GRPs when compared with the previous week ratings.
The raise of News genere has impacted Malayalam GEC marginally as the leading channels witnssed drop in viewrship. Asianet has dropped from 977 GRP to 937 GRP in week 43. while Mazhavil Manorama has droped from 348 GRP to 287 GRP and Surya TV has dopped from 315 GRP to 255 GRP in week 43.
