Mumbai: Jagran New Media, the digital arm of Jagran Prakashan Ltd., in partnership with Sharda School of Media, Film & Entertainment, successfully organized a national seminar on “AI in Combating Misinformation: Advancing Fact-Checking Practices” on January 22, 2025. The seminar served as a platform for experts, academicians, and scholars to delve into the evolving role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in addressing misinformation and revolutionizing fact-checking methodologies.
The event featured a hands-on workshop led by Google News Initiative (GNI)-certified fact-checking professionals, along with thought-provoking sessions by leading experts.
In his opening remarks, Rajesh Upadhyay, Editor-In-Chief & Executive President of Jagran New Media, said, “AI is not just a tool but a necessity in combating misinformation. Prominent speakers included Dr. Tavpritesh Sethi, Founding Head of the Center of Excellence in Healthcare at IIT Delhi; Swapnil Mehta, Founder of SimPPL Cambridge; and Santosh K Patra, Chairperson of Media, Entertainment, and Sports Business at MICA. They shared insights on leveraging AI to enhance accuracy in journalism, combat misinformation, and navigate ethical challenges in the digital era.
The seminar also highlighted the efforts of Vishvas News, the fact-checking division of Jagran New Media, in its fight against misinformation. Initiatives such as the Message Check Tool developed with IIT Kharagpur, and the Sach Ke Saathi literacy drive, demonstrate a commitment to empowering individuals with tools to combat false information. These programs aim to build trust and transparency in today’s media ecosystem by leveraging cutting-edge AI and machine learning technologies.
