Mumbai: In the annual ‘Hits of the Year’ survey conducted by advertising agency Rediffusion’s Red Lab team, India’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup victory, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rise as a global leader, and the lavish $600 million Ambani wedding emerged as the top highlights of 2024.
The ‘Hits of the Year’ survey captures the most impactful events, personalities, and trends that resonated with the Indian public. This year’s survey involved 2,317 respondents aged 18–45 across the country, who voted on a shortlist of 50 “Hits” distilled from over 300 headline-making moments.
Top Highlights of 2024
- India’s Cricket Triumph
India’s thrilling ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup victory topped the list with 68.3% of votes, reaffirming the nation’s enduring passion for the sport. - PM Modi’s Global Leadership
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s stature as a global leader ranked second with 65.9%. His diplomatic engagements, spanning outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden to European and Asian leaders, captured public admiration. - The Ambani Wedding
The opulent wedding of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant also garnered 65.9%, reflecting its cultural and social buzz. - The Ram Mandir Realization
The consecration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya was another milestone event, ranking fourth with 61% votes. - Quick-Commerce Boom
Platforms like Blinkit and Zepto transformed consumer habits, earning fifth place with 60.5%.
Other notable mentions included Ratan Tata’s legacy following his passing, D. Gukesh’s rise as the World Chess Champion, Rishabh Pant’s remarkable cricketing comeback, and India’s best-ever Olympic and Paralympic performance.
“2024 has been a year of many victories – in cricket, in chess, and at the Olympics. The Hits also came from PM Modi, the Ambanis, Ratan Tata, CJ Chandrachud, singer Diljit Dosanjh, and cricketers Pant, SKY, and Bumrah. Many of them find a place in the ‘Hits of the Year’ 2024 because they made the nation proud,” said Dr. Sandeep Goyal, Chairman of Rediffusion.
The report also reflects India’s strides in sustainability, the rise of women’s empowerment in politics, and advancements in technology and EV adoption.
