JustWatch, a streaming guide for OTT market share has unveiled data for quarter ending March 2024. Disney+ Hotstar has topped the charts with a 3% lead in the Indian streaming market, combating Amazon Prime Video. With a close combat to the top spots, Amazon Prime Video and Netflix shared the second and third place in the charts.
As per the latest quarter ending chart Disney+ Hotstar has gained 1% share when compared to the past quarter ending 2023. Similarly, both the global streaming giants Amazon Prime Video and Netflix gained 1% share each comparatively. Desi plater ZEE5 remained unchanged with 11% share while Viacom18’s Voot has merged with JioCinema and the users were redirected to the latter’s website.
On the other hand, Sony Liv too remained static with 4% share and ALTT struggles with 3% as it decreased 1% when compared with 2023 data.
The market share development in 2024, thus, has been a great start of the year for the market leaders such as, Disney+ Hotstar, Amazon Prime Video, and Netflix and other local streamers including Zee5 and JioCinema are leading the growth with 1% increase. However, the other streaming platforms remained steady as well.
The streaming war in the Indian OTT space are likely to witness major changes in the upcoming quarters due to major changes in the market dynamic after the merger deal between Reliance and Disney Star. Jio Cinema has amplified its SVOD offerings with slew of international content deals and launched Jio Cinema Premium at an affordable sachet pricing model which is likely to be bundled with Jio mobile subscription. The move according to MediaNews4U is likely to boost up the SVOD market share of Jio Cinema in the upcoming quarters.
