India ranks number 13 on the prestigious Gunn Report on advertising industry released for 2015, moving one step up from its position in the previous year but still faring poorly compared to its performance in 2013 when it broke into the list of top ten countries at No. 9.
J Walter Thomson India has captured the number one position in the ranking, while its sister agency Contract Advertising has been ranked No. 3. McCann Worldgroup, the top agency last year, slipped to the second spot.
JWT topped the ranking with the maximum seven points in film category for the work done by its offices in Mumbai and Bengaluru.
“It’s a great start to the year with JWT India topping the global Gunn Report. We have always gone in with all guns blazing for our clients, with sharp ideas that strike the bullseye more often than not. And this honour only proves that my team has not just delivered the goods in the marketplace but also come out shining and with all guns blazing in the 2015 Gunn Report,” said Senthil Kumar, chief creative officer, JWT.
He further said, “We have won India’s only global recognition in digital, mobile and social categories, along with good performance in film on the world stage.”
Contract captured the third spot with six points. Its national creative director Ashish Chakravarty said, “I believe awards (and therefore such rankings) are the by-product of the passion and rigour that we put into our work. And the chemistry we create, with our colleagues and clients. The teams at Contract have been doing just that since we came together in 2013. So the many creative awards, new business wins and rankings only go to show that we are doing it right.”
The other Indian agencies among the top five are Ogilvy & Mather at No. 4 with four points and DDB Mudra, ideas@work and Taproot India jointly at No. 5, with three points each.
