Mumbai: The India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA), the premier industry body focused on accelerating the adoption of energy storage, green hydrogen, and e-mobility in India, has announced the appointment of Debmalya Sen as its new President. He will take charge effective today.
Founded in 2012 by Customized Energy Solutions (CES), IESA’s mission is to transform India into a global hub for research, development, manufacturing, and adoption of advanced energy storage, e-mobility, and green hydrogen technologies. With a membership base of over 180 companies, IESA includes players from diverse industry verticals such as energy storage, EV manufacturing, EV charging infrastructure, green hydrogen, microgrids, power electronics, renewable energy, research institutions, and cleantech startups.
Debmalya Sen brings extensive experience in the energy sector, having worked across conventional power, renewable energy, energy storage, and green hydrogen domains. His expertise in emerging technologies, policy advocacy, and business development will play a pivotal role in advancing India’s energy storage ecosystem.
Before his appointment at IESA, Debmalya served as India Lead for Advanced Energy Solutions at the World Economic Forum, where he led discussions on energy transition, policy frameworks, and emerging technologies such as energy storage and green hydrogen. He has also collaborated closely with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) in shaping India’s energy storage policies.

IESA is actively contributing to India’s Net Zero Goal through several key initiatives. The India Battery Manufacturing & Supply Chain Council (IBMSCC) is focused on the development of a complete battery supply chain to support upcoming giga factories in India. The India Electric Mobility Council (IEMC) aims to explore opportunities in the R&D and manufacturing of e-mobility technologies and clean transport adoption in India. The India Green Hydrogen Council (IGHC) is dedicated to exploring the R&D and manufacturing potential of green hydrogen technologies and their use in clean transport and industrial applications. The Stationary Energy Storage India (SESI) Council is focused on the roadmap for stationary energy storage in India.
Additionally, IESA’s Reuse & Recycling Council (IRRC) promotes best practices for battery recycling and reuse, with a particular focus on battery collection mechanisms and encouraging research in battery recycling. The IESA Startup and Innovation Initiative identifies emerging startups in India and abroad with breakthrough technologies in energy storage, green hydrogen, and e-mobility to help accelerate their growth in India.
With Debmalya Sen at the helm, IESA is poised to play a crucial role in shaping India’s energy future.
