The Union Information & Broadcasting Ministry has reminded broadcasters to adhere to its advisory on their obligation of public service broadcasting.
In its latest letter to the private satellite TV channels, the ministry has prompted them to follow the Ministry’s advisory dated 30th January 2023.
According to the advisory, channels must broadcast content in public service as defined by it for 30 minutes a day, accounted for cumulatively on a monthly basis, with effect from March 1, 2023. They need to submit a monthly report on the Broadcast Seva portal on or before the 7th of the following month.
The letter said, “The advisory was issued to guide the broadcasters on content, accounting, reporting and identification of PSB obligations and the channels were advised to file monthly reports with effect from 01.03.2023. For ease of compliance for PSB obligations by the broadcasters, Ministry also provided bulk uploading facility for online filing of the PSB report on the Broadcast Seva portal and also intimated the same to the broadcasters in the month of May 2023. The Ministry has noted that broadcasters, both news & current affairs as well as non-news & current affairs, have started filing the PSB report through the BS portal.”
“All the private satellite TV channels permitted by the Ministry are again advised to comply with the aforesaid advisory dated 30.01.2023 and upload the monthly PSB report on the BS portal latest by the 7th day of the following month,” added the letter.
