New Delhi: The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has issued a statement againstNon News Channels involving in coverage of election related contenton counting day.
The statement issued by the Ministry on 22nd May 2019 stated that a Non-News & Current Affairs TV channel means a channel, which does not have any element of news and current affairs in its programme content. Hence, Non-News and Current Affairs channels are not mandated to carry anv news and current affairs content.
The statement further advised all TV channels to strictly ensure that there is no violation of the afore mentioned conditions of the Guidelines.”
Reports suggest that Tweets from Zee Group announcing counting day coverage on Zee TV and Zee ETC has prompted I&B Ministry to issue the statement clarifying the limitations and scope of Non News Channels involving on News Coverage.
In accordance with the Policy Guidelines for Uplinking of Television Channels From India, 2011, the Ministry gives permission for uplinking of TV channels under two categories: (i) Non-News & Current Affairs; and (ii) News & Current Affairs.
