Mumbai: In a significant step towards fostering a more inclusive society, House of McDowell’s Soda has launched the ‘Yaaron Ki Udaan’ initiative in collaboration with Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled. The project, unveiled on World Disability Day, aims to empower 100 disabled and underprivileged youth through education, vocational training, and essential skills to secure meaningful employment, while also advocating for greater disability inclusion in the workplace.
This initiative builds on the success of House of McDowell’s Soda’s #YaaronWaaliBaat campaign, which featured Bollywood actor Kartik Aaryan and celebrated inclusivity and diversity as drivers of societal progress. By launching ‘Yaaron Ki Udaan’, the brand continues to demonstrate its commitment to making a tangible impact on the lives of individuals with disabilities.
In partnership with Samarthanam Trust, a renowned organization dedicated to empowering persons with disabilities and underserved communities, House of McDowell’s Soda also revealed the findings of a comprehensive survey conducted with over 200 participants. The survey shed light on the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities in securing employment and attaining financial independence. Key findings included:
- 94% of respondents highlighted the need for upskilling and vocational training to improve employment prospects.
- 42% reported limited job opportunities due to insufficient hiring practices by organizations and heightened competition.
- Respondents also pointed out the lack of practical and technical skills, as well as barriers such as inadequate infrastructure, and difficulties securing basic needs like food, accommodation, and travel.
The survey results underscore the need for accessible education, inclusive infrastructure, and targeted vocational training programs to equip disabled individuals with the tools they need to thrive in the workplace. Moreover, respondents emphasized the importance of mentorship, counseling, and confidence-building programs to enable individuals to succeed in their careers.
A significant 80% of participants also expressed the need for more organizations, like House of McDowell’s Soda, to take an active role in community engagement initiatives that promote equality, independence, and inclusion.
Varun Koorichh, Vice President of Marketing and Portfolio Head at Diageo, said, “The ‘Yaaron Ki Udaan’ initiative reflects our commitment to inclusivity, empowering youth with disabilities by equipping them with skills that lead to meaningful, long-term employment. Our partnership with Samarthanam underscores our belief that true diversity goes beyond representation—it’s about collective upliftment and creating a future where everyone has the chance to thrive. At House of McDowell’s Soda, we are proud to take this meaningful first step and are determined to build this effort strongly year after year, ensuring lasting impact and shared success.”
Dr. Mahantesh G Kivadasannavar, Founder of Samarthanam Trust, expressed, “We are thrilled to collaborate with House of McDowell’s Soda, a brand that is not only supporting inclusion but also driving tangible impact. This partnership is a testament to our shared commitment to a future where everyone, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to contribute and grow with dignity.”
The ‘Yaaron Ki Udaan’ initiative is part of House of McDowell’s Soda’s broader mission to build authentic connections and create limitless opportunities for collective growth. Launching on World Disability Day, the program serves as a powerful reminder that inclusivity is not just a value, but a shared responsibility for all.
