Chennai:The Hindu embarked on its newest initiative to help increase the green cover in and around Chennai by reaching out to its loyal readers. A sapling will be planted for every copy of The Hindu newspaper dropped at the boxes placed in shopping malls with the largest footfall in the city.
This CSR initiative from the Group has been well received and the responses are overwhelming. Communitree, an NGO creating man-made forests has been partnered with. “This is an initiative to create a cleaner, greener, happier and fresher Chennai. The Hindu cares for the environment and we are glad to be on board. Nurturing the city that we live in is our responsibility. The saplings from the campaign will be added to South India’s largest man-made forest that we are currently working on”, says Hafiz from Communitree.
“As the city grows, we need to be more and more conscious of the environmental impact of this growth. We invite the readers of The Hindu to join hands and drop off as many copies as they’d like to contribute to this social movement”,said Dr. Sathya Sriram, Head of Strategy & Marketing, The HinduGroup.
Those who want to be a part of this cause should Drop the read copies of The Hindu in boxes placed at The HinduLounge, Express Avenue, II Floor (opp. Lifestyle) and Forum Vijaya Mall, Central Atrium, Ground Floor (near Helpdesk).
Name, contact number and e-mail ID of the participatnt should be wtitten on the newspapers, so that they can plant the sapling in respective participant’s name.
