MUMBAI: Halder Venture, which works in the area of parboiled rice and edible oil manufacturing, has completed hundred years. To celebrate this milestone, the company presents The Mill, a tribute to its 100-year legacy. Directed by filmmakers Arindam Dey and Debangshu Mitter, The Mill looks to transcend a traditional corporate documentary, offering a narrative of a company that has stood the test of time, transforming lives and industries.
The Mill is a documentary that chronicles Halder Venture Limited’s 100-year journey, weaving together the stories of the Halder family, their struggles, triumphs, and values that have shaped their legacy. Through rare archival footage and heartfelt stories, the film takes viewers on a personal journey, showcasing the company’s transformation from a rice mill to its current global presence in the food industry. The documentary captures the milestones that have shaped the legacy of HVL, from its early days to its current status.
In a storytelling approach, the directors have recreated nuances from the past by casting individuals who bear a striking resemblance to the real-life characters, adding depth and authenticity to the narrative. The film features conversations with the Halder family members, who candidly share the hurdles they faced, both within the family and in the industry, and how they emerged stronger and more resilient through it all.
Keshab Kumar Halder, MD, Halder Venture Limited said, “Rice is food for the hungry man, employment for the unemployed person, merchandise for the transport and commodity for the government, living for my family, and a dream for me”, these words capture the deep connection between the business and the people it serves. This philosophy is woven into every frame of the film, illustrating the company’s deeper purpose beyond profit.
Arindam Dey, director, “The Mill holds a special significance for me. It not only tells the story of Halder Venture Limited’s journey to success but also highlights the power of a legacy built on determination, perseverance, and, most importantly, resilience in the face of adversity. I am deeply grateful to the Halder family for entrusting us with their story. I hope this film endures, just as their love for The Mill has”.
Co-director Debangshu Mitter said, “In a filmmaking career spanning over three decades, one seldom comes across corporate entities with the grit to celebrate a centenary. Halder Venture Limited is one of them. While producing this film, we had the privilege of engaging with the HVL team and leadership—visionaries who have steered the company through the tides of time.
“It is truly an extraordinary company, thriving for a century and driven by a vision to excel for the next 100 years. That unwavering confidence and forward-thinking leadership are what will propel Halder Venture Limited to even greater heights. It was an honour to be part of this journey.”
