GroupM has introduced its MEC, Mindshare and MediaCom agencies to sub-Saharan Africa to augment its existing operations in South Africa and North Africa from its offices in Kenyan capital Nairobi.
The move follows a decision by GroupM owners WPP to acquire a controlling stake in Scangroup, market leader for advertising and communication services in East Africa.
Designed to offer efficiencies through consolidation of media management and leadership the moves will bring international best practice to bear on the local market including the latest media tools, technology and training.
Dominic Grainger, GroupM CEO EMEA, said: “Sub-Saharan Africa is a key growth priority for many of our clients and we are increasing our presence and capabilities across the region.
“These operations will have a market leading position and the overall network, along with its affiliates, shall comprise a team of more than 150 people across sub Saharan Africa. The evolution of the company’s media offering supports its growth strategy, client growth, and fast-changing opportunities for brands.”
Scangroup COO Nandu Buty will head GroupM’s sub-Saharan operations.
