New Delhi: Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday said that the government is ready to bring stricter rules for social media and make it more accountable if there is political consensus on the matter.
The Minister said that if the house has a consensus, the government is willing to bring in even stricter social media rules. He also added that the social media rules should be made stricter for the protection of citizens. The IT Minister was responding to questions in Rajya Sabha to a question by Congress MP Anand Sharma on whether any verification process to effectively check the functioning of social media is done. The minister also added that we have to come forward as a society and create much more accountability on social media.
He also added that there would be no compromise when it comes to protecting the dignity of women. While responding to a question on what action has been taken against websites like ‘BulliBai’ that targeted Muslim women, Vaishnaw said the government acted quickly when the violation was brought to the government notice.
