New Delhi: The government is considering setting up a Film and Television institute in the North East and consultations are on in this regard.
This information was shared in the Lok Sabha by Minister of State in the Information and Broadcasting Ministry Rajyavardhan Rathore in a written reply to a member’s question.
“The Ministry is exploring the feasibility of setting up a Film and Television Institute in the North East region in consultation with the concerned State government,” Rathore said in his reply in the Lok Sabha.
Replying to another question on a 24X7 channel for farmers to be launched by Doordarshan, Rathore said that it is proposed as a Hindi channel to begin with.
He said inputs for programmes will be sourced from regional kendras and programmes will also be shared with them.
Responding to another question, Rathore said that the government plans to upgrade the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) to ‘An Institution of National Importance’ through an Act of Parliament.
