The soulful voice that made everyone fall in love took his last breath doing what he was best at, performing in a concert, in Kolkata.
Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK, concluded the evening with his debut title track from his album, ‘Pal’ with the lines, ‘Hum, rahe ya na rahe kal, Kal yaad aayenge yeh pal….’ The departure was more heartbreaking with this song.
He made his film debut with an AR Rahman soundtrack and Bollywood debut with ‘Tadap Tadap Ke Is Dil Se’ from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, which he considered a turning point in his career.
Well before that, in 1994, KK had given his demo tape to Louis Banks, Ranjit Barot and Lesle Lewis to get a break in the music arena. He was called by UTV to sing a jingle for a Santogen Suiting ad, his first break.
Few are aware that he began his career by singing for advertisement jingles and TV shows. He sang over 3500 jingles in 11 languages before he got his movie break.
We pay a small tribute to KK here, with a few memorable ads that had his voice in their soundtracks.
