- Flipkart App is now present in nearly one-third of all smartphones in India
- App is one among only three India-specific apps to cross 100 million mark
- Flipkart app downloads surpass apps of categories such as payments & transportation
Bangalore: Flipkart, announced today that it’s mobile app has become the first e-commerce app in the country to cross the 100 million downloads mark on Google Play store. Flipkart’s app is one among only three India-specific mobile apps that have crossed this crucial consumer adoption metric, surpassing downloads of other categories such as payments and transportation.
In terms of ratings, Flipkart’s app holds a high average score of 4.4 over 4 million users on Google Play Store — the only e-commerce app to have reached that rating in India.
The Indian smartphone user base currently stands at a little over 300 million — the vast majority of which run on Google’s Android operating system — indicating that Flipkart’s app is present in nearly a third of all smartphones in the country. Further, the climb to 100 million downloads just half that number in February 2016 suggests users have embraced the app owing to its ease of use, low bandwidth and data consumption, and enhanced search capabilities which makes it easier to zero in on a product of choice.
“We are investing heavily on developing innovative features and incorporating fresh design aspects in our app so our customers go through the entire purchase cycle search to selection to payments in a seamless and user friendly manner. The 100 million app downloads is a testament of our growing customer base that loves to shop on Flipkart,” said Ravi Garikipati, CTO, Flipkart.
“We want to thank our customers for their rich feedback which has helped us improve the app experience and ensure it’s at par with the desktop and mobile websites.”
For Flipkart customers, using the mobile app is as intuitive as the desktop and mobile websites since users of the app get to experience the same tech innovations in search and recommendations, while also benefiting innovative consumer finance programs such as Buy Now Pay Later, No Cost EMIs, Debit Card EMIs, and Assured Buy Back.
In July 2017, Flipkart was among MIT Technology Review’s 50 smartest companies globally and its innovative mobile website, based on Progressive Web Application technology, has inspired m-sites of other global companies. Flipkart’s m-site, designed to work seamlessly in places with patchy internet connectivity, has transformed into a major source for traffic and sales at Flipkart.
