Common trends are being observed across and online shopping saw an uptick beyond urban and semi-urban markets, according to Flipkart’s FlipTrends 2023 report based on shopping behaviour of the e-commerce marketplace’s over 500 million registered users.
The platform witnessed over 41 million new customers up until November 2023. With shoppers spending an average of 7 hours in the year on the platform.
Over 4 million users engaged with ‘Flippi’, the ChatGPT-powered shopping assistant in the month of October at the time of its launch. Flippi uses generative AI to guide users on products best suited for their needs.
Bengaluru and New Delhi topped the list of metro city shoppers. Trivandrum, Patna, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Varanasi, Ernakulam, Guwahati and Cuttack, Medinipur, and Bankura were some of the top tier 1, 2 and 3 cities. Many of them shared shopping preferences, informed an official statement.
Flipkart witnessed 100 pc growth in infant formula and 50 pc growth in premium skin care baby products in 2023.
Third-party brand gift cards on Flipkart grew by 40 pc in 2023 over the previous year, especially in the gold and diamond jewellery and gaming categories. The Big Billion Days sale saw a 31 pc increase in Flipkart gift cards over 2022.
In 2023, premium styling products on the marketplace saw a 3X growth over the previous year. Face care products were the most shopped among grooming products, followed by hair care and body care. The most popular face care product was face wash, specifically those with glycolic acid and salicylic acid. Shampoos topped hair care and moisturisers were the most shopped in body care.
Cycles were the most shopped product in fitness, followed by treadmills and dumbbells. This was not just a metro trend. Berhampore, Puri, and Medinipur were the top among tier 3 cities that shopped for these products in 2023, the statement revealed.
Oversized and unisex fashion wear were some of the most popular lifestyle searches this year, the report reveals. Sarees were the most shopped clothing product in 2023 on Flipkart. Within the fashion category, women’s clothing across ethnic, contemporary, and western wear remained at the top of shopping lists.
Wireless or Bullet Headphones topped the gadget list. Premium laptops saw 3.2x growth while the marketplace witnessed a 100 pc surge in tablet demand.
Action and adventure cameras were the fastest growing segment under cameras, witnessing 4X growth in 2023.
