New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday awarded the US media rights for the Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty20 tournament to ESPN Inc. for $12.4 million for a three-year period.
ESPN Inc., a multimedia sports entertainment company based in the US, won the rights for the period from 2015 to 2017.
“We are delighted to have entered into a strategic partnership with one of the leading platforms of global sport, M/S ESPN, which will deliver the widest possible reach ever for the Pepsi IPL in the US,” said Sanjay Patel, secretary, BCCI.
BCCI received three bids—from Willow, another US sports channel, Times Internet, the digital arm of The Times of India group, and ESPN. The marketing committee of the BCCI met in Chennai to choose the winner.
