Structured & facilitated by Meraki Sport & Entertainment – Partnership extends up to 2021 and also provides the athlete with a comprehensive insurance cover
Mumbai: Edelweiss, one of India’s leading financial services conglomerates, on Monday announced their partnership with India’s wonder woman in sport – Dipa Karmakar for a multi- year deal ahead of the Tokyo 2020 games.
Padmashree Dipa Karmakar, an artistic gymnast, created history when she came 4th at the 2016
Summer Olympics. She is the first Indian female gymnast ever to compete in the Olympics, and the first Indian gymnast to do so in 52 years. An Arjuna Awardee at the age of 22 and a Khel Ratna awardee in 2017, Dipa is one of India’s medal hopefuls at both the Asian Games & Tokyo 2020.
Speaking about the association, Shabnam Panjwani, Chief Marketing Officer, Edelweiss Group said, “We are delighted to welcome Dipa and Rani to the Edelweiss family. As India’s leading sports champions, they are now a beacon for the next generation of Indian athletes. We all know that every single time a sportswoman’s achievement is flashed in media, thousands of girls across India are inspired and encouraged to break traditional moulds in conservative societies and take up sports. We are happy to be part of a movement that encourages young women to overcome limitations and achieve their dreams.”
“I am really happy to partner with Edelweiss. It is an honour to be associated with a brand that has supported the Olympic movement and such associations also help instil confidence amongst the younger generation of athletes, pursuing their dream to represent India at the Olympics. I look forward to this association”, said Dipa at the announcement.
Dipa is exclusively represented by Meraki Sport and Entertainment, and speaking on the occasion, Ms. Namrata Parekh, Co-Founder & Director, said, “Edelweiss are leaders in their industry and one of the few brands that have leveraged the power of sport effectively. Given Dipa’s focus on training, while we have been very selective about her associations, the partnership with Edelweiss is one we believe is complete value match.”
Edelweiss Group has had a long and consistent association with sports and through its philanthropic arm, EdelGive Foundation, supported various sports personalities including M C Mary Kom, Saina Nehwal, P V Sindhu and Ayonika Paul amongst others. They were also the principal sponsors to the Indian contingent at Rio 2016 Games.
