Fiction has always been the bread and butter of all general entertainment television channels. The daily dose of drama for entertainment has been a staple for a lot of households across the country. The dramas have probably the widest breadth of audience age groups they resonate with.
This is a list of some of the fiction shows launched in 2018 I believe have been loved by the audiences.
Kulfi Kumar Bajewala – Star Plus
Kids are a great leveller of age groups thanks to the universality of their emotional appeal The protagonist of the story Kulfi, a young girl who is an exceptional singer, played by Akriti Sharma. The show is her journey and the obstacles she faces as she attempts to unite with her father, Sikandar Singh Gill. The show is a remake of the Bengali GEC Star Jalsha’s show Potol Kumar Gaanwala which aired in 2015. Produced by Gul Khan for Star Plus, the show is well known for its storytelling and background score. It’s a story that evokes great empathy in the viewer, who put their emotional support to willing her to succeed. The show is going strong, with over 200 episodes already aired.
Naagin 3 – Colors
COLORS brought back for a 3rd season, Naagin, the story of power, passion and revenge. The new season traced back to mythological origins and the belief that if someone kills a naag, it’s beloved, naagin will surely return for revenge. The journey of Ruhi the Naagin, who performs a ritual and acquires a new identity, Bela, to take revenge. Produced by Balaji Telefilms, and never mind if anyone wants to decry it for being regressive. This is dramatic, gripping storytelling that the masses have loved. Lavishly. Produced too, with overdoses of dramatic moments and excitement. And so it chugs along, happily, at the top of the heap.
Tujhse Hai Raabta – Zee TV
Tujhse Hai Raabta suggests how we place blood relations on the highest pedestal in our society, but should they be the only ties we value in life? It has narrated a unique, bittersweet mother-daughter like relationship that begins to develop between two women, Anupriya played by PoorvaGokhale and Kalyani played by Reem Sheikh, who are not related by blood; Infact, practically strangers to each other, but strung together by destiny in an unconventional bond. The show is produced by Amir Jaffer and Sonali Jaffer, and is the kind of entertaining concept that would appeal to you ger forward-thinking audiences too, while etaoning the intrinsic dramatic storyline that the masses love. Unique concept, more of a question to society, simply put and rolled out through this interesting storyline.
Radha Krishn – Star Bharat
Star Bharat’s Indian mythological show, Radha Krishn, is that eternal love story transcending eras and emotions. It’s ltheove story of Radha and Krishna. The show is produced by Siddharth Kumar Tiwary, who also produced the extremely successful Mahabharat for Star Plus. Cast includes SumedhMudgalkar as Krishna, Mallika Singh as Radha and Reena Kapoor as Yashoda. Started in October 2018, the show has done well for the channel. Early days, yet, but the show seems set for a good innings.
Guddan..Tumse Na Ho Paega – Zee TV
Guddan..Tumse Na Ho Paega encourages viewers to brush aside the naysayers and cultivate a “Yes I can do that!”attitude. Guddan..Tumse Na Ho Paega tells the light-hearted story of a 20-year old girl, Guddan, who has bumbled and fumbled through most of her life. She, who is repeatedly told by her own family that she can’t get anything right, finds herself becoming India’s youngest mother-in-law to three older daughters-in-law by a quirk of circumstances! For the first time, television witnessed a role reversal to the typical saas-bahu relationship as three daughters-in-law set out in search of a suitable bride for their 40-year old father-in-law Akshat, and each, for their own vested interests, gets him married to 20-year old Guddan. Vwey very interesting concept indeed!
These shows have made quite an impact via the ratings they garnered and from the love they received from their audiences. One waits to see how the makers plan to develop them further.
Bepannah – Colors
Bepannah was a romantic mystery drama produced by Cinevistaas Limited for Colors.
Aditya Hooda played by Harshad Chopda and Zoya Siddiqui played by Jennifer Winget, are two individuals brought together through their spouses’ betrayal.
Aditya and Zoya’s spouses Pooja and Yash are found dead together in a road accident. They discover that the two were having an affair. The story of how their togetherness that subsequently leads to a love story is what the show is all about.
The show opened big by entering top 5 charts straight and proved to be a good bet for the makers. The show has now ended, one is waiting to see if there will be another season of Bepannah.
