Las Vegas: Dolby Laboratories has announced its plans to bring Dolby Cinema® to India later this year, ushering in a new era of premium cinema experiences. The first six exhibitors to launch Dolby Cinema screens in India include City Pride in Pune, Allu Cineplex in Hyderabad, LA Cinema in Trichy, AMB Cinemas in Bengaluru, EVM Cinemas in Kochi, and G Cineplex in Ulikkal.
The introduction of Dolby Cinema in India is set to redefine the movie-watching experience for Indian audiences, giving them the chance to experience films exactly as the filmmakers envisioned. This milestone is expected to set a new benchmark for premium cinema in the country and further reinforces Dolby’s ongoing commitment to advancing entertainment through innovative technology.
Dolby Cinema combines cutting-edge picture and sound technologies to create a truly transformative moviegoing experience. With Dolby Vision, the picture is brought to life with stunning brightness, deeper contrasts, and unparalleled colour accuracy that make every scene feel vivid and lifelike. Meanwhile, Dolby Atmos envelops viewers with multidimensional sound that flows from all directions, including overhead, pulling them deeper into the story. This technology ensures that every seat in the auditorium provides an exceptional viewing experience—making each seat the “best seat in the house.”
“The launch of Dolby Cinema in India is a pivotal moment for the country’s entertainment sector,” said Michael Archer, Vice President of Worldwide Cinema Sales and Partner Management, Dolby Laboratories. “Indian audiences are passionate about movies, and Dolby Cinema is the ultimate moviegoing experience. Since the opening of the first Dolby Cinema in 2014, Dolby Cinema has grown rapidly, encompassing 35 exhibitor partners and 14 countries. This announcement underscores our commitment to advancing cinematic storytelling, working closely with filmmakers, studios, and exhibitors to deliver extraordinary entertainment experiences.”
A key component of Dolby’s expansion into India is the availability of world-class post-production facilities for filmmakers. In addition to the 24 Dolby Atmos theatrical mix facilities already established in India, Dolby has partnered with Annapurna Studios in Hyderabad to open India’s first Dolby Vision colour grading facility. This state-of-the-art facility will empower Indian filmmakers with the tools they need to elevate their visual storytelling and produce content that matches the immersive experience offered by Dolby Cinema.
As Dolby Cinema makes its debut in India, moviegoers will have the chance to experience films in a way that was previously unavailable in the country, marking a transformative moment in the local entertainment industry. With Dolby’s cutting-edge technologies, the magic of cinema is now more accessible than ever.
