Mumbai: The much-anticipated launch of Disney+ Hotstar in India has been delayed due to the Covid-19 virus pandemic and prevailing uncertainties faced by the global market. The India launch of Disney+ Hotstar service was timed during the launch of the IPL 2020 season, Now, with this year’s IPL season running into ambiguity over the increasing fear of global outbreak, the rollout was called off.
Announcing their plans to delay the roll out Uday Shankar, President – The Walt Disney Company APAC and Chairman, Star & Disney India said, “We recently announced that Disney+ would launch in India through the Hotstar service in conjunction with beginning of the Indian Premier League cricket season. Given the delay of the season, we have made the decision to briefly pause the roll-out of Disney+ and will announce a new revised premiere date for the service soon.”
Disney+ debuted on November 12, 2019, in the United States, Canada, and the Netherlands. The service was expanded to Australia, New Zealand, and Puerto Rico a week later, and they planned to expand to select European countries and India in March 2020.
