National: BIG FM in India tackled the water crisis with ‘Jal Andolan – Desh Ne Thaani Not to Waste Paani’, aiming to promote responsible water usage. The campaign, supported by celebrities, government, activists, communities, and NGOs, addressed rising temperatures worsening water shortages in Indian cities.
Through the campaign, BIG FM initiated ‘Jal Daan’ to promote water conservation, collecting and distributing water in Delhi and NCR using tankers. On-ground activities like cleaning water bodies, mall programs, school talks with experts, and station competitions were also part of the campaign.
The impactful campaign gained Jal Shakti Department’s attention. Secretary Ms. Debashree Mukherjee IAS praised it. Celebrities like Manoj Bajpayee, Divya Dutta, and others supported by sharing water conservation efforts. Activists, including Dr. Rajendra Singh, showed solidarity with audio and video messages. Listeners shared water-saving stories with BIG FM RJs.
Sunil Kumaran, COO of BIG FM, shared his views on the campaign, stating, “The need for water is perpetual for all. As demand rises and the population grows, conserving not only water but all natural resources has become crucial. Through ‘Jal Andolan,’ we aimed to further emphasize the importance of mindful water consumption and thereby the needs for its conservation. I would like to extend my gratitude towards all the dignitaries who supported this initiative; their influence is vital in fostering a healthier environment for those without access to fresh water.”
The ‘Jal Andolan’ in Delhi emphasized ‘Jal Daan,’ promoting water conservation through bucket bathing, refraining from car washes, and reusing RO wastewater. Around 50,000 liters were delivered to water-deficient zones by BIG FM RJs and supporters including Delhi Police, listeners, and communities.
