Mumbai: Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd. (BCCL) has today i.e. the 16th of May, 2017 confirmed lodging a complaint against Mr. Arnab Goswami and Ms. Prema Sridevi for the commission of offences of theft, criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of property and infringement of IPR of BCCL by using the same on Republic TV on 6th and 8th May, 2017.
The statement issued by BCCL said that the company owns several intellectual assets in the form of stories, audio-video content, documents, tapes, etc., gathered by its team of reporters and journalists during its news gathering and broadcasting operations.
BCCL accuses that the displayed material used by Mr. Arnab Goswami (ex Editor-in-Chief of Times Now) on 6th May, 2017 exposing Mr. Lalu Prasad Yadav and the audio tapes of phone conversations between Prema Sridevi and the Late Sunanda Pushkar on 8th May, 2017 were procured and accessed while Mr. Goswami and Ms. Prema were in the employment of Times Now.
It also states that Mr. Goswami and Ms. Sridevi have converted the same for their benefit and used the aforesaid intellectual property of “Times Now” thereby committing the offence of criminal misappropriation of property punishable U/Sec.403 of I.P.C and cliams that it has therefore taken steps to defend its rights and protect its intellectual property against such misuse.
