BBC Worldwide has inked SVOD licensing deals with India’s Hungama and Vuclip digital services.
Starting at the end of this month, Hungama subscribers will be able to watch BBC program debuts such as the first season of the crime drama Prey, the dramedy Not Safe for Work and the sci-fi title Save Our Skins.
Meanwhile, clients of Vuclip’s OTT service Viu can catch up on BBC dramas such as War and Peace and Doctor Foster.
“Over the last few months, we have seen an upward trend where BBC’s dramas are being increasingly snapped up by Indian clients for their linear TV and digital TV platforms,” said Myleeta Aga, the senior VP and general manager of BBC Worldwide (India).
“A study commissioned by BBC Worldwide last year showed that international audiences, including India, love original British drama. With more and more Indians going online to watch their favorite dramas, we are excited to work with Hungama and Viu to satisfy viewers’ demands by bringing critically acclaimed and highly rated BBC programs to their subscribers.”
