Bauer Media has appointed Morgan Rees as editor-in-chief of its flagship film brand Empire magazine, following the departure of Mark Dinning, who left Bauer Media in August to join Time Out Dubai as editor.
Rees, who will join the publication on 3 November, has been running an editorial agency providing editorial consultancy to digital, magazine and sports brands, and has also managed a digital start-up.
Prior to this Rees worked as creative development director and editorial director at Hearst-Rodale where he was responsible for developing all brands across multiple platforms, he also managed the editorial remit of the company’s digital division and oversaw the launch of Women’s Health into the UK market.
Commenting on the appointment, Abby Carvosso, managing director of Bauer’s London Lifestyle business, said Rees will help take the Empire brand to the “next level”.
He added: “We are thrilled that Morgan is joining Bauer Media as editor-in-chief of Empire. As the hugely successful former editor of Men’s Health and creative development director and editorial director of Hearst-Rodale he brings with him an impressive knowledge of the magazine and digital publishing business and a deep understanding of the men’s magazine market.”
Rees will report to publisher, David Bostock and work closely with executive content director Jane Johnson.
