Mumbai : According to the BARC data for the week 52 for the period between Saturday, 22nd December 2018 and Friday, 28th December 2018, the South market is being topped by the leaders like Sun TV, Asianet, Colors Kannada and Star Maa who have retained their leadership positions , this week too. Though the order of ranking of the Kannada and Telugu GECs remains unchanged against week 51, the TN and Kerala markets have witnessed a reordering of the ranking of the GECs in week 52.
Tamil GEC market
The market leader Sun TV is seen dominating the Tamilnadu market with 938 mn imps in week 52, while with 549 mn imps, Zee Tamil has reclaimed its runner up position after a brief hiatus, pushing away its closest rival Star Vijay to the No.3 position with 524 mn imps. The 4th and 5th slot in the chart are seen occupied by Sun Network’s movie channel KTV and its comedy channel Adithya TV with 367 mn imps and 119 mn imps respectively.
Malayalam GEC market
The Kerala market in week 52, has witnessed a shuffle in the rankings, though the market leader Asianet dominates the category with 287 mn imps, Mazhavil Manorama is seen overtaking Flowers TV to occupy the No. 2 position this week. Flowers TV has dropped to the 3rd place with 111 mn imps while the Sun Networks’ Malayalam GEC Surya TV and Star India’s movie channels Asianet movies have managed to retain their rankings with 103 mn imps and 688 mn imps this week.
Kannada GEC market
The ranking of the Kannada GEC in week 52 remains unchanged against week 51. Colors Kannada with 419 mn imps leads the market followed by Zee Kannada with 408 mn imps. Sun Networks’ Kannada GEC Udaya TV and its movie channel Udaya movies have also retained their rankings in the 3rd and 4th slots with 219 mn imps and 199 mn imps respectively. Star Suvarana with 163 mn imps has settled in the 5th place in week 52.
Telugu GEC market
Star Maa continues to dominate the Telugu GEC market with 733 mn imps followed by Zee Telugu and ETV Telugu with 606 mn imps and 469 mn imps respectively. Gemini TV and Gemini movies stood the 4th and 5th positions in the chart retaining their last week’s rankings with 439 mn imps and 199 mn imps in week 52.
Though the leaders of the South markets have retained their positions, there prevails a very stiff competition among the GECs in all four South markets, and the channels are continuously seen strengthening their programing line up of fiction and non fiction shows to withstand the tough competition the market poses.
