Mumbai : One of the longest running serials on Indian TV, Balika Vadhu is likely to end its runs this July after eight long years. the show was shifted to evening time band @ 6:30 PM on 30th May and the 8:00 PM time band on Colors has witnessed the launch of a new fiction show Shakthi.
According to Market sources Balika Vadhu is finally set to go off air as the show failed to show any remarkable improvement in its falling ratings even in its evening time band as the channel expected the same to attract better rural audience.
The channel felt that the show has run its course and it made no sense to drag it any further, according to sources. Also, the show no longer has the same kind of ratings it used to garner previously. The changes of show timing and the jump from one generation to another were reportedly a few factors which affected the ratings of the show.
It is understood that the shooting of the show will be winded up on 22nd July and the last episode of the show will be aired on 31st July 2016.
Balika Vadhu has made its way to the Limca Books of Records as the longest running daily fiction soap in Hindi, with a run of over 2,000 episodes. Presently the show has completed a run of 2200 episodes.
The show began on 21st July 2008, delving into the social issue of child marriages. It traced the life of young bride Anandi, whose life goes through ups and downs after she is married at a young age to Jagdish. Her trials and tribulations, and her fight against the social system forms the crux of the story, which has now moved to telling her the journey of her daughter Nandini.
While Balika Vadhu is the longest running daily serial in Hindi, The Telugu daily serial Abishekam on ETV Telugu is the longest running daily serial in Indian Television history with 2330 episodes.
The dubbing and remake of Balika Vadhu in various regional Indian languages also managed to open and score historic ratings in the respective markets.
