New Delhi: Asian Television Awards launched in 1996 is regarded as the most honored and prestigious event in the Asian TV industry. The Asian TV Awards 2016 edition was conducted at the Suntec Convention Centre in Singapore.
It was an honor for the senior journalist and consulting editor of NDTV Barkha Dutt too, when she won the Asian TV award for her prime-time show ‘The Buck Stops Here’. One who wins shares the honor in pride. Barkha Dutt chose the other way. She posted a picture of Asian TV Award 2016 on Twitter with a caption that read ‘I dedicate this award to my trolls! Our show ‘The Buck Stops Here’ wins Asian TV Award in Singapore for our ground reporting of Pathankot terror’.
Barkha Dutt might have felt it as a wise step thinking that she had given a good bash to those whom she calls trolls on the cyberspace. Incidentally, for those trolls, she had been a troll on her side to invite a harder reaction. Her tweet was enough to trigger a wave of counters Twitterverse. The shot-backs came with some uncovered facts to leave Barkha exposed and red-faced.
Frankly, Pathankot incident is not another news item to be carried on and handled with less care. So sensitive is the issue concerning the nation’s security and defensive action across the border. While a news presentation is expected to be open, frank and true to its sense, it should also see that where the buck should stop! It is our country, above all! In the stance of playing liberal, it shouldn’t at any point be observed to be pro-Pakistan’.
No doubt, it was a great moment for Barka Dutt and channel NDTV when they bagged the reputable award for their show. But a spell of tweets came up with a hint on the connection between NDTV and Asian Television Awards. K.V.L. Narayan Rao, the Executive Vice Chairperson of NDTV was one of the advisory Board Members of Asian TV Awards. Twitterati have posed a question over the authenticity of the awards which claims to represent the industry’s foremost recognition, and discredited her award and achievement for nest news program.
Barkha Dutt might have something to say about this. And it may again invite bashes from the ‘trolls’ to whom she had dedicated her award. Let’s see how the intensity of dedication takes a turn.
