Mumbai : Amitava Sinha, chief operating officer for East, North & South at Rediffusion Y&R, has quit the agency.
Confirming the development, Dhunji Wadia, president at Rediffusion Y&R, told ET: “I thank Amitava (Sinha) for everything he has done to bring us this far.”
Sinha, who has had a stint of 12 years with the agency, said: “I am looking for bigger challenges in life that will help me utilise my core competency of growing organisations, businesses and people.”
Some top officials in the agency said Sinha’s resignation comes on the heels of his growing differences with the top management regarding focus and growth of Rediffusion Y&R. They said Sinha placed his resignation on January 20. It was accepted immediately and Wadia issued an internal circular to employees announcing his departure.
“Amitava’s existence in the recent past has literally been out of a suitcase, looking after three key operations — Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai — flying from one meeting to another, at different destinations,” Wadia wrote in the circular. “Amitava knows who does what and who knows what. He’s worked with large groups of people, large bodies of information and made sense for us all at Rediffusion Y&R,” he added.
Sinha has more than 27 years of experience in marketing and advertising. After starting his career with Reckitt Benckiser, he worked at JWT Kolkata, McCann Erickson and Bates before joining Rediffusion in 2003. While the agency has started scouting for Sinha’s replacement, it has already appointed Suman Varma, who recently quit as vice-president and client servicing director at JWT, as head of operations.
