Alibaba has hired former Wall Street Journal Asia digital editor Adam Najberg as head of digital media.
The move will see the American team up with former WSJ colleague Robert Christie, who’s vice president of international media at the Chinese e-commerce giant.
Najberg left journalism after 25 years to join drone maker DJI as global director of communications just over a year ago. He will report to Erica Matthews, head of corporate relations at Alibaba Group, and will be based in Hong Kong.
Najberg began his career in journalism at The Indianapolis News. He joined Dow Jones Newswires as a reporter in the mid-nineties. The 45-year-old is a seasoned journalist and author who has served many news organizations for the past 25 years, including The Washington Post, The Associated Press, ICRT and more recently The Wall Street Journal.
He held a number of roles at Dow Jones, including a four-year spell as managing editor, before moving across to The Wall Street Journal as news editor, operations in 2006. He was digital editor for Asia, and editor of asia.WSJ.com from 2012 until August last year when he joined DJI. Najberg has been responsible for the digital growth of the paper’s English-language and local-language sites, blogs, translation services and videos in Asia.
