Akash Ambani, the eldest son of Mukesh Ambani has been appointed as Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm’s board, the telecom division of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), as per regulatory filing. He had joined Jio in 2014.
The announcement of the elevation came along with Mukesh Ambani stepping down as the company’s Director effective 27th June.
Reliance Jio Infocomm, in a regulatory filing stated, “The board of directors have at their meeting held on June 27, 2022 noted the resignation of Mukesh D Ambani as director of the company effective from close of working hours on June 27, 2022.”
“The board has also approved the appointment of Akash M Ambani, Non-Executive Director as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company”, it added.
The company further noted that the board has cleared the appointment of Raminder Singh Gujral and KV Chowdary as independent Directors, for a period of five years commencing from June 27, 2022.
It also added that the appointment of Pankaj Mohan Pawar as Managing Director of Jio has also been approved. However the decision would require the clearance from shareholders.
Mukesh Ambani will continue to serve as Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) and as the chairman of Jio Platforms Ltd, the parent firm of all Jio digital services brands.
