New Delhi : The All India Radio has begun transmitting two of its channels – Vividh Bharati and FM Rainbow – in digital mode from New Delhi.
With this launch, the AIR has entered into Digital Transmission era. The AIR is transmitting these channels since 19th June from its 20 kW Medium Wave (MW) transmitter at Mall Road here, a statement released by the broadcaster said.
DRM or Digital Radio Mondiale is a digital radio standard that is designed specifically as a high quality digital replacement for current analogue radio broadcasting in Medium Wave, the statement added.
This digital transmission of the two channels can be heard through DRM receivers on 1368 kHz, it said. Officials said that while the quality of transmission is better, tuning into it requires DRM receivers.
“Since the future belongs to digital broadcasting, DRM receiver manufacturers may come up with low-cost, affordable solutions as far as DRM receivers are concerned,” said Animesh Chakraborty, Engineer-in-Chief, AIR as per the statement.
These channels are also available in the FM mode.
